Volkswagen Group (VW) seems one step ahead compared to its competitors. German automotive giant is also number one car manufacturer in the world, will make her debut with creating the concept for the future, a car that can be driven without a driver. As reported by CNN, the self-driving car is named VW Cedric is on display at the car exhibition at the Geneva International Motor Show 2017, Switzerland.
The concept car is different from a conventional car in general. VW Cedric hasn’t connected to cable or using the steering wheel, gas pedal or brakes, but operated by electric power. Inside the cabin, provided seats for four passengers can be configured facing forward all or face to face. Meanwhile, passengers can access in and out freely for adopting a sliding door model. Interestingly, VW also designed a fresh cabin by placing plants in the rear window.
W Cedric designed as a smart car. This car will respond to any commands spoken by the owner. At the front, at the windshield, is used as a computer display, navigation and other information. Autonomous system (self driving) on VW Cedric fully controlled by a computerized system from the data center to the user to a destination location. To call these vehicles, the owners simply press a button on the remote control.
Head of Research VW, Ulrich Eichhorn, said it plans to hold other automakers such as Porsche and Lamborghini in developing Cedric. VW is very optimistic that if the concept of self-driving cars will be appreciated by the fans. According to the plan, VW Group wants to start production of Cedric at the end of 2025.
